Welcome to The Stronghold!

Here on the Stronghold server we believe that H1Z1:Just Survive wasn't meant to be played as a KOS death match fest and that engagements with other players should be more meaningful. For this reason we have a ruleset that requires that some form of interaction is required to initiate an engagement. We believe that this makes the game more fun and adds a slight element of realism to the player engagements. Obviously, there will always be those people that just want to kill (look at the Wolves in Walking Dead) and as long as they demonstrate a degree of intent before killing then the interaction requirements are met. This is the minimum we expect to initiate an interaction. However, people that always kill will be flagged as bandits/bad guys by the servers' community and they may find that their victims are prepared for them.

You would be forgiven for thinking that our interaction rules are very "RP". So, let's get this straight, we're not an RP server. We don't expect you to create a character that has a back story and will be forever forgotten upon death. We expect you to play the game in a realistic way to give the stronghold a more immersive game style.

If you think that this server matches your play style, then hit the apply link!

This is an english primary server, you MUST be able to speak basic english to be able to interact in accordance with our ruleset. If you cannot speak english DO NOT APPLY!!!

Server rules changes July '16

With the next wipe imminent, the rules have been updated. The rules are constantly being reviewed, primarily based on player feedback (after all you are the guys on the front lines) and adjusted, and this wipe is no exception.

  • General rules - exploits
The examples list has been updated with a few newer and more common exploits that we do not want to see in game. Some items have been removed from the list, but only to keep the list relatively short. The new examples of exploits that are disallowed are:
    • Placing multiple (i.e. overlapping) shelters on the same building slot. No more shelters inside shelters.
    • Placing items clipping through doors, gates or other structures to unfairly absorb damage. Having to blow up a shelter because there's something inside the door is not cool.
    • Scrapping a wrecked vehicle or chopping down a tree without the appropriate tool or without damaging the tool. Sorry flashlights, it's the crowbars' time to shine again.
  • PvP Rules of Engagement
    • Interaction MUST identify the target: use the player's name ("Stick 'em up, Player X!"), their clan name ("Death to clan XYZ!"), or some other attributes ("You hiding in the blue house!"). This is in addition to showing intent. When engaging a player in open-world PvP, the interaction has to show hostile intent and be directed at a specific player or group.
    • Added a short section called "A word on the KoS zone" section. The summary being, it's a dangerous place, go there at your own risk.
  • Building
    • No-build zones have been extended into PV and Cranberry lakes. Check the maps for details. Those FPS-sapping mega-water-bases of dooooom have to be a little further away from the cities.

Hey all, it is day 406 on the Stronghold and we had another wonderful weekend. This week we hosted the first of many Survival Saturday: Bastions Games events. These events will come in all forms and will have more of a hunger games feel to them. As always, if you have any ideas for events, members can post them HERE. This weeks event marked the 26th Survival Saturday event on the server. I want to take a moment to personally thank all our awesome event minions and moderators for their hard work on the server and events.

Now, some congratulations are in order. First, I would like to welcome Pixel to the event minion team. Second, I would like to announce that three new modlings have joined the event team: Hazard, Mimziez and Swizzle have stepped up to the challenges. So, please join me in congratulating them on their new positions. Without them, each Survival Saturday couldn't happen.

We have also had some promotions. DeathKaraz, Faru, and Wraylas have moved up to Moderator rank after completing their modling training. While Kegan and ExpiredPass have stepped up to Admin. As always the server owners are Sp0r, Hanii, PhazePyre and Xaiin. The remaining staff are as follows, Carterski, d3vnull, Dunabar, Gopher, and Mongo.

On a sad note, Zimm has decided to step away for a while. I'm sure everyone here agrees that he will be deeply missed. Zimm has done so much for the server and we can not imagine doing this without him. We wish him the best and hope he hurries back to us.

It is looking to be that time again: a wipe is just around the corner. With that will come some changes to the rules. Stay tuned for more updates in the next few days.

Thank you for reading.
Your Community Moderator Team.

As always check us out on Twitch and Follow us on Twitter.

Server rules changes May '16

Hi folks,

I like to keep everyone informed of rules changes. You're probably all reading the rules page every night before bed (aren't you?!) but these threads help to point out any changes beyond spelling and punctuation.

There have been two small changes to the rules, in summary: 1. please respect staff, 2. recruit all the people!

New section added

The first change is the addition of an extra section about your interaction with staff members doing their staff duties. It pains me that we need to add a section like this into the rules, but some of you just don't seem to listen if it is not etched in stone on the rules page. So now it is!

The following section has been appended to the bottom of the "General" rules section.
Our staff members work hard to make your experiences playing the game, and in the wider community, as enjoyable as possible. Please bear the following in mind when interacting with the team: they want to work with you, and not be butting heads.

  1. When being given instructions by staff members, listen and follow them.
  2. Behave respectfully when interacting with a staff member. Don't lose your cool.
  3. If you have a problem with a member of staff, talk to the individual privately in the first instance. Otherwise, escalate the issue more formally via a private message to the admins group on the forums.
Old, stale rule removed

There is also one rule that has been removed, which covered not using the fact that you play on the Stronghold as a recruitment tool. It went like:

Clans cannot use their presence on the server as a recruitment tool. While it is okay, and encouraged, to mention that you play on this server when communicating externally, that fact should not be used during recruitment. The key factor here is we don't want clans making recruitment posts like, "Hey, you! Want to play on a whitelist server? Join our clan!" Remember, your clan will be held responsible for all clan members brought on to the server.

We've moved beyond the small issues we used to have of people using the clan system as a fast track / lower scrutiny route on to the server and we now don't want to stop you guys referencing the Stronghold in your videos, posts, and so on, elsewhere on the internets. More of that please!

Anyway, that's all from your friendly neighbourhood gopher.

Thank you for reading all of the way to the end of this post; you deserve a treat. Pie time!

Server rules changes for official server events

Howdy survivors,

Please be advised that the following section has been added to the rules page. It basically puts down in writing guidelines and practices that have been in place for a while already. The aim here is to allow us to provide fun events for you the community.

VII. Server events

We hold regular official server events, with the main series being “Saturday Survival”. The following extra rules are in place to help ensure that as many people as possible can participate in and enjoy our events. You can learn more about when and where events are happening by checking the forums and from announcements on discord and radio channel 1 in-game.

  • Please respect active events and do not interfere with participants.
  • When being given instructions by event staff or moderators, listen and follow them.
  • There is a no-raid window during "Saturday Survival" events, and for a short time before and after (generally around 30 minutes). Announcements will be made via server broadcast messages (the white text at the top of the screen) when the no-raid window is starting and ending. This is to allow players to participate in our events without fear of having their bases raided at the same time.

The "no-raid window" prohibits any raiding activity, which includes breaching, looting, attacking, and otherwise occupying, a base/shack that is not yours. If you break any of the above rules, you may be temporarily banned for the duration of the event: we want to spend time taking care of the event, and will get around to you afterwards.

Regards,

Gopher

Server Rules Changes for April '16

Please note that some rules have changed for this wipe. Below is a brief summary of the changes but, as always, it is your responsibility to keep yourself up-to-date with the current rules when playing on our server.

Summaries only. See the rules page for full details!

I. General

Summary of new/clarified rules:
  • Examples are given of common forbidden exploits (such as placing/picking-up towers/stairs) that could affect your base building or PVP battles.
  • Note: Exploit abuse will be monitored more closely than last wipe. Exploits used on pubs should not make their way to Stronghold.

III. Building

No building zones changes:
  • No building on the hill west of the PV police department (larger nobuild area than before) or the area west of the south PV warehouses.
  • There is a large nobuild zone around the Bumjick Farms area. Carefully review it before building south or southwest of PV.

Rules Change: Airdrops

Howdy folks,

Since we got a whole bunch of airdrops, thanks to our awesome upwards trend in population over recent weeks, the mod and admin team decided that we needed just a couple of extra rules to clarify the situation. We've been mulling these changes over for a while as we've watched the pop. grow.

The updated rules can be found on the rules page: http://h1z1stronghold.com/blog/rules

And here's a little bit of our reasoning.

1. Obey the interaction rules of the zone the drop is in.
Okay so the urge to savagely murder anyone you see while racing towards that precious loot might be overwhelming, but it would be a huge pain to manage if we decided to say "okay, KOS within X meters" or "in sight of the box" or... so to keep life simpler for you, just look at the grid square you're in and follow the interactions as per usual. If the drop lands in the KOS zone, murder freely to grab the goodies. In the interaction zone? Make it clear the loot is your and you'll stop at nothing to get it (extra bonus points for "my preciousssss" Gollum impressions in proximity chat).

2. If the drop lands in the Neutral Zone (even if it was called outside), it belongs to the town.
We don't want to allow PvP of any kind in the neutral zone. If you could still claim the drop as "yours" when it lands in the neutral zone, there would be all kinds of squabbles inevitably. Plus, it means us care bears (or you lovely people with extra tickets) can call in a drop and hopefully nab some goodies to donate towards or use at events.

Have fun!
